Job Purpose: At 19 Ideas we believe that the right mix of talent and hard work makes for the best creative. We’re looking for a Senior Copywriter with great concepting, writing and research skills to contribute to creative that gets noticed and supports marketing strategies for our clients and agency. As a member of the creative team our Senior Copywriter will develop brand story language for new and existing brands, and draft copy for marketing and advertising collateral across all mediums, from digital to print to video.  The best candidate will have a versatile writing style and be a quick learner, with the ability to identify the best style and tone to reach audiences, as well as match existing tone for established brands. Key opportunities for collaboration with the Digital Experience department, brand managers, and Creative Director will be important to the success of this role and to the creation of work that meets strategic objectives.

The Senior Copywriter will:

  • Write clear and error-free copy that reflects, and is consistent with, the appropriate brand voice adhering to brand or tone guidelines.
  • Maintain responsibility and thought leadership throughout the creative writing and concepting process and be prepared for discussions and explanations.
  • Lead the creation of brand guidelines and style rules for brands and ensure all copy for client marketing collateral adheres to the set standards.
  • Contribute to content strategy for web sites in collaboration with the lead designer on the project and the digital experience team.
  • Lead campaign concepting for clients and internal promotions and present ideas to the Creative Director or Associate Creative Director for consideration.
  • Interpret and turn creative direction and project guidance into persuasive concepts that connect with audiences to meet business and marketing goals.
  • Positively and efficiently adapt feedback into revision work while keeping all changes organized and easily understood.
  • Present copy concepts, reasoning, and best-practice communication strategies to clients and internal leadership as needed.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with team members during all phases of a project, including content ideation, content outlines, revisions and feedback, and supplementary recommendations to further the work.
  • Use industry-standard styles to proofread agency work.
  • Stay atop industry, market, cultural and field trends to inspire ideas and implement within creative work.
  • Contribute to weekly internal and client workflow updates, attend internal status meetings, and be prepared to discuss project progress.
  • Foster and maintain a working relationship with 19 Ideas team members, as well as clients.
  • Liaise, communicate and manage effectively between 19 Ideas team members and senior management.
  • Proficiently use project management tools and software daily.
  • Keep all workflow spaces and folders organized — with draft and final documents properly labeled and visibly edited, when necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in marketing or communications is preferred. English and journalism degrees are encouraged to apply.
  • 5+ years of proven writing experience in an advertising or marketing role. Agency experience is preferred.
  • Must have a portfolio of published work for review to be submitted, including three (3) writing samples across a variety of clients and mediums such as traditional and digital advertising, websites, social media and blogs.
  • Experience with digital and social media, video scripting, SEO, advertising, marketing and web writing is preferred.
  • Understand the importance of consistency in brand and voice, adhering to brand and tone standards and following brand style guidelines.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills and a solid knowledge of proper punctuation, spelling and grammar with proven cases of exceptional attention to detail.
  • Have a keen sense for “visual” copywriting as it relates to character counts and size parameters for all design work.
  • Strong command of the English language, including expert understanding of at least one industry-standard style guide; most recent AP preferred.
  • Demonstrate effective management of simultaneous projects that vary in size and scope in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment while meeting deadlines and staying on budget.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite as well as project management and hour-tracking databases.
